What is a Fire Detection & Alarm System (FDAS)?

A Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS) provides early warning when smoke, fire, or other hazardous conditions are detected—giving people valuable time to respond and evacuate safely.

An FDAS brings together smoke and heat detectors, manual call points, alarm devices, notification appliances, and a central control panel to detect potential fire hazards and quickly alert building occupants.

■ How an FDAS Works

1. Detect
Fire detectors identify early signs of fire, such as smoke or rising heat, and send a signal to the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP).

2. Process
The FACP receives and processes the signal, identifies the source of the alarm, and activates the appropriate response.

3. Alert & Respond
Audible and visual notification devices alert occupants to the emergency, helping them evacuate safely. When connected to a monitoring service, the system can also notify emergency responders for a faster response.
